Rabbi David Lau, on Six Day War

Even after the Sinai Campaign, the enemy could not accept our existence.

The Arabs formed a union from Syria in the north to Egypt in the south, and at the last moment, the king of Jordan joined them.

They joined forces in order to end our existence.

And here, in the country of Israel we were deeply concerned.  There was a feeling that maybe, heaven forbid, we hadn’t succeeded in our task of establishing a state and a "national home" for the Jewish people.

In response, the IDF set out on a miraculous and wonderful campaign, The Six day War, during which our enemies were beaten.

The Sinai Peninsula was taken from the Egyptians.

The Golan Heights were taken from the Syrians and this stopped the threat to the Galilee settlements and the rest of the north.

And headlines were made when in Jerusalem, the city of our fathers, paratroopers, headed by Motta Gor reached the Temple Mount and the Western Wall, and announced to all, The Temple Mount is in our hands. Jerusalem was once more united under the Jewish nation.

Under the command of the head of the Central Command, East Jerusalem was conquered.

IDF forces attacked the Jordanians, who occupied the Old City, and the West Bank, known as Judea and Samaria.

The Parachute Brigade, commanded by Motta Gor, conquered "Ammunition Hill", the Rockefeller Museum and the old city.

The Harel Brigade under the command of Uri Ben Ari, conquered "Radar Hill", and continued to the north of Jerusalem to "Tel El Ful" and later to the east.

Additional forces conquered Judea and Samaria.  The last battle ended with the conquering of the Dotan valley by Moshe Bril's brigade, the tank brigade that conquered the valley.

The Jordanian forces were destroyed, and those which were not destroyed withdrew beyond the Jordan River.
